This glossary defines 16 ticketing and venue-hire terms used on Singapore event pages, from Early Bird to last admission and peak rates, using each organiser’s own wording where it defines the term. It was checked on 17 October 2026 against Esplanade, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Grand Prix, National Environment Agency (NEA) and NParks pages. Where a page does not define a word, the entry says so; recheck any figure before you book.
At a glance
- Buying tickets: Early Bird, Esplanade&Me tiers, SISTIC booking fee, concession, Singapore Resident rate.
- Age, seats and access: admission age, restricted view, hirer’s event, Relaxed Environment and Relaxed Performance.
- Opening times and weather: last admission, maintenance closure, Zone 1 and Zone 4, rain or shine.
- Hosting: CONSUME BY time-stamp, minimum booking block, peak and off-peak.
Admission age
Admission age is the youngest age an event admits, and it is separate from who needs a ticket. The DOMi & JD BECK page (a concert on 1 December 2026) gives its “Admission Age” as “6 and above”, and Esplanade’s visitor FAQs say most shows admit ages six and above, some admit toddlers, and every individual needs a ticket, infants included, unless stated otherwise.
Check the age line before promising a child a place; see how to find concerts and exhibitions.
Concession
A concession ticket is one sold to a named group, such as students or persons with disabilities (PWDs), who may be asked for proof of eligibility. Esplanade’s ticketing page says concession tickets may be checked at random and that, without proof such as a student ID, you must upgrade by topping up the difference for a standard ticket.
The DOMi & JD BECK page lists concessions as a separate “Students, NSFs, Seniors & PWDs” ticket tab. The accessibility page allows up to two tickets per person with a disability, the second for a companion, and gives the Box Office hotline, 6828 8377 (12pm to 6pm daily). See the hirer’s event entry for where Esplanade’s pages differ.
CONSUME BY time-stamp
A CONSUME BY time-stamp is the label on a packed meal, or the sign at each buffet table, showing when food was cooked or made ready to eat and the time by which it should be eaten. NEA’s guidelines for ordering catered meals, marked “Updated as at 31 Dec 2016”, call it mandatory with effect from 15 February 2012.
They say the time should be no later than 4 hours from when the food is cooked or ready to eat, and that removing or altering the sign is an offence. Check NEA’s website for current rules; see our party catering guide.
Early Bird
Early Bird is a time-limited, limited-quantity ticket discount for Esplanade&Me members. Esplanade’s visitor FAQs say each event has a limited early bird quota.
The DOMi & JD BECK page listed an Early Bird window of 13–16 August 2026 (Black 20%, White 15%, Discover 15% with a minimum of 2 tickets), then 15%, 10% and 10% from 17 August 2026, on Standard tickets only, so its early bird had closed months before the concert. The membership page lists early bird specials under White and Black only, yet this event lists a Discover rate, so trust the event page. See our Mosaic Music Series guide for member sums and a weekly what’s-on watch for release dates.
Esplanade&Me tiers
Esplanade&Me is Esplanade’s membership in three tiers: Discover is free with no expiry, White costs S$50 a year or comes from S$500 spent on tickets and at Esplanade Mall in a membership year, and Black comes from S$1,000 spent in a year. The membership page says Black cannot be purchased, though its summary also mentions a donation.
It lists priority booking for all tiers, early bird specials for White and Black, and 10% (White) or 15% (Black) off selected events. Its terms allow up to four tickets per production at member prices where applicable, apply specials to non-concession tickets only, and let Esplanade amend or withdraw benefits at any time.
Hirer’s event
A hirer’s event is, in Esplanade’s words, one where “Esplanade is not involved in the creation or production of the programme, but it is taking place at our venue” (visitor FAQs).
The FAQs say a missing PWD concession may mean a hirer’s event, and that the concession applies to “all Esplanade Presents programmes, unless otherwise stated”; the accessibility page says those “that offer concessions” have one, and the ticketing page says “selected Esplanade Presents programmes”. The pages we read do not define “Esplanade Presents”. See the Esplanade visitor reference.
Last admission
Last admission is the latest time you can enter an attraction, and it is earlier than closing time. Gardens by the Bay’s opening hours page lists Flower Dome and Cloud Forest as open daily 9.00am to 9.00pm, with last admission at 8.30pm and 8.00pm respectively.
The Flower Dome page recommends a visit of 1 hour, so entering at 8.30pm leaves 30 minutes (our arithmetic). See ticket combinations and group cost.
Maintenance closure
A maintenance closure is a scheduled day when an attraction is shut for upkeep. Gardens by the Bay’s opening hours page says Cloud Forest, Flower Dome, Floral Fantasy, OCBC Skyway and Supertree Observatory are each closed once a month for maintenance.
On 17 October 2026 that page listed the next closures as Monday 26 October 2026 for Cloud Forest and Monday 16 November 2026 for Flower Dome, and the Flower Dome page says block-out dates apply to all day passes.
Minimum booking block
A minimum booking block is the shortest slot a venue lets you hire. NParks’ HortPark venue page, last updated on 10 October 2026, sets 4 hours including set-up and tear-down, in the blocks 8am–12pm, 1pm–5pm and 6pm–10pm, or a full day from 8am to 10pm; bookings “must be made 2 months prior to the event date”.
The Event Lawn’s listed off-peak fee is S$545 for 4 hours and S$1,090 for the full day (the page does not mention GST). Three blocks cost S$1,635 (3 × S$545, our arithmetic), so the full day is S$545 less. See park venue hire compared.
Peak and off-peak
In venue hire, peak and off-peak are two price levels for the same space, depending on the day. On NParks’ HortPark venue page peak is Friday to Sunday and off-peak is Tuesday to Thursday; Monday is not mentioned, so ask.
The Event Lawn’s 4-hour minimum is S$545 off-peak and S$681.25 peak, 25% more (our arithmetic). See park venue hire compared.
Rain or shine
“Rain or shine” on a ticket or event page means the organiser plans to hold the event in any weather; it says nothing by itself about refunds. When we read the Singapore Grand Prix event guide on 3 October 2026, it called the 2026 race weekend “a rain or shine event”; after the race the page no longer showed that line (checked 17 October 2026).
Esplanade words the same risk differently. Its ticketing terms let the promoter postpone, cancel, interrupt or stop an event in adverse weather, and its pages differ on postponed shows: the visitor FAQs call refunds optional where the new date is known, while the terms say they are not applicable to postponed Esplanade Presents performances. See haze and rain plan B.
Relaxed Environment and Relaxed Performance
A Relaxed Environment (RE) performance suits anyone who benefits from being able to make a noise, leave and return to their seat or go to the toilet, with no changes to the show; a Relaxed Performance (RP) is modified from the regular show to be more comfortable for people with sensory sensitivities or on the autism spectrum (visitor FAQs).
The FAQs name Beautiful Sunday, Coffee Morning & Afternoon Tea, Limelight and National Theatre Live among the RE series. See our archive of one Beautiful Sunday concert, and our relaxed gathering plan for a party version of the idea.
Restricted view
A restricted-view seat is one from which your view of the stage may be partially obstructed. Esplanade’s visitor FAQs say you will know which seats are restricted when you book, as promoters or organisers indicate them clearly; they do not say whether such seats cost less. They also say some performances automatically restrict single seats left between bookings, and suggest selecting adjacent seats or another section.
Singapore Resident rate
The Singapore Resident rate is a lower ticket price for people living in Singapore. The Flower Dome page says it applies to Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and those living in Singapore, including Employment Pass, Work Permit and Dependent Pass holders; proof of residency and a local bank card may be required, and without proof ticket upgrades will be required.
On 17 October 2026 the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest combination was S$34 for a resident adult and S$26 for a child aged 3–12, against S$46 and S$32 non-resident, GST included. See ticket combinations and group cost.
SISTIC booking fee
A SISTIC booking fee is a per-ticket charge made by Esplanade’s ticketing agent. Esplanade’s visitor FAQs list its bands: S$1 below S$20, S$3 from S$20.01 to S$40, S$4 from S$40.01 to S$50, S$5 from S$50.01 to S$70 and S$6 above S$70. The DOMi & JD BECK page says in its ticketing notes that prices exclude the ticketing agent’s booking fees, so treat the checkout total as the price.
An illustrative sum: a S$75 Standard ticket falls in the S$6 band, so two tickets cost 2 × (S$75 + S$6) = S$162. See the worked example for a group of six.
Zone 1 and Zone 4
Zone 1 and Zone 4 were the ticket zones at the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix (9 to 11 October) that decided which entertainment stages a ticket reached. The promoter’s news release of 10 July 2026, still online on 17 October, says: “All tickets provide access to the performances in Zone 4, including the Padang Stage. A Zone 1 ticket is required to access performances at the Wharf and Barge Stage.” It adds that the ticket had to be valid on the day of the act.
The 2026 race weekend has passed, and on 17 October the promoter’s tickets page was headed “2027 Tickets”, so check the zone access listed for 2027 before you buy. See our Sprint weekend guide for how the 2026 weekend was laid out.

What should I check before I book?
- Read the advisory lines on the event page (admission age, restricted view).
- Find your ticket tab and the proof it may need, then add the booking fee per ticket before you split the cost.
- Check the weather and cancellation wording (“rain or shine” does not mention refunds), last admission and any maintenance closure for your date.
- For venue hire or catering, confirm peak or off-peak, the minimum block and the CONSUME BY time.
- Agree the final numbers in the group chat (our group plan message has wording), then see what else is on and our planning topic.
Common questions
Is last admission the same as closing time?
No. It is the latest time you can enter: on 17 October 2026 Gardens by the Bay listed Flower Dome as closing at 9.00pm with last admission at 8.30pm.
Does “rain or shine” mean I get a refund if it rains?
Not by itself. The phrase only means the organiser plans to hold the event in any weather; it does not say what happens to your ticket, so check the ticket terms.
